Privacy Policy

Effective July 2026

Deal Guard is built to help you vet a used car before you buy it. We designed it to keep your data on your device. This policy explains what that means.

The short version

• Deal Guard has no account and no login.
• Your deals, saved searches, photos, notes, and reports are stored on your device (and, if you enable iCloud, in your own private iCloud account — never ours).
• We do not sell your data. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. We do not track you across apps or websites.

What stays on your device

Everything you create in the app — tracked deals, saved searches, buyer checklists, photos, notes, and cached vehicle reports — is stored locally using Apple's on-device database. If you turn on iCloud sync, that data syncs through your personal iCloud account so it survives a new phone; it is end-to-end within your Apple account and is not accessible to us.

What we send to third parties, and why

To produce a report or listings, the app sends the minimum needed directly from your device to these services:

• NHTSA and the EPA (U.S. government) — the VIN or year/make/model to look up recalls, complaints, crash-test ratings, and fuel economy.
• Vehicle-listing sources (e.g. MarketCheck, eBay, and public marketplace pages) — your search terms and ZIP to find matching listings.
• Anthropic — if you use an AI feature (deal evaluation, the search concierge, or message drafts), the relevant vehicle details are sent to Anthropic's API to generate that result. This data is not used to train models.

We do not attach your name or an account to these requests, because there isn't one.

Camera, location, and notifications

• Camera is used only to scan a VIN. Scanning happens on your device; images are not uploaded.
• Location / ZIP is used only to find local listings and estimate taxes and fees.
• Notifications, if you allow them, are used to alert you to new matching listings and price drops.

Payments

Subscriptions are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card or Apple ID. Apple's privacy policy governs that transaction.

Deleting your data

You can erase everything at any time in Settings → "Delete all local data." That clears the on-device database, cached reports, and app settings. If iCloud sync is on, deleting on one device removes it from your other devices too.

Children

Deal Guard is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

We'll update this policy as the app changes and revise the date above.
